Beavers are for ages 5 to 7, boys and girls.Â
The 13th Burlington Beaver Scouts meet on Wednesdays from 630pm-730pm at St. Gabriel's Church. 2261 Parkway Dr. The program runs from September through June.
Weekly meetings:Â
Play based exploration to learn about the world around
Hikes, crafts, games, DIY projects, cooking, holiday themed activities and more!Â
We're learning to respect and care for the environment and each other.
Overnight camping and special events:Â
All sections camp (together with Cubs and Scouts), Beaveree (together with other Beavers from the region), sleepovers (for example at the zoo) and building Beaver buggies. Participation at sleepovers is optional and depends on the comfort level of each child. Parents who complete their parent overnight training can join overnight camps.
Personal Progression Badges: One for each year, celebrating growth and adventures.
Personal Achievement Badges: Various badges for trying new things—from cooking to nature exploration to helping at home.
Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS): Progressive skill-building that continues throughout the entire scouting journey.
North Star Award: The top Section Award for a Beaver Scout. Work for this award is undertaken during the year before Beavers move to Cub Scouts.
Promise: I promise to be kind and help take care of the world.
Law: A Beaver has fun, works hard and helps family and friends.
Motto: Sharing, Sharing, Sharing. (In response to the question "Who are we and what do we do?" at the opening of meetings)
Colony: The name for a section of Beavers (similar to a Cub Pack or Scout Troop)
Lodge: A small group of Beavers working together (similar to a Cub Lair or Scout Patrol)
Beaveree: A large gathering of Beavers.Â
Swim-up Ceremony: At the end of a White Tail's year, they participate in a Swim-up Ceremony, in which they are formally graduate from Beaver Scouts and into first year Cub Scouts.
"Tails" are affixed to hats:
Brown Tail: Beaver Scout in their 1st year (5 year old)
Blue Tail: Beaver Scout in their 2nd year (6 year old)
White Tail: Beaver Scout in their 3rd year (7 year old)
