Parent Overnight Helpers
Follow these steps if you wish to help out at overnight camps but not quite ready to join as a volunteer on a regular basis.
Tell your section's contact scouter or group commissioner that you're interested. They will change your myscouts.ca profile to "Parent overnight" to get started.
Request a Police Record Check (PRC) including a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) from Halton Regional Police. On the application form you must indicate that the check is for Scouts Canada. Police record checks obtained for other organizations (school board, sports, etc) will not be accepted.
Submit the completed police record check online on this page within 3 months.Â
Complete the "Safe Scouting for Parents" online training, which is accessible from your myscouts.ca account. After you log in there is a button on the left side called "Safe Scouting for Parents". The course takes about 30 minutes to complete.
When prompted in your myscouts.ca account, accept the Code of Conduct.
After these steps the group commissioner will review your application and approve it or reach out with any questions.
Parent helpers at regular meetings or day outings (not overnight)
Parents helping at regular meetings or day outings but not overnight stays don't need a police check and don't need to complete the "Safe scouting for parents" online module but they do need to accept the Code of Conduct annually.
